A Clearwater man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend.
Alexander Richardson, 24, was booked into the Pinellas County Jail Sunday afternoon in connection with the death of 51-year-old Josephine Austria.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of Hillcreek Circle East, between U.S. 19 and McMullen Booth Road.
Several people were inside the house at the time of the incident.
Richardson lived with Austria at the home.
He was charged with using a firearm while under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
According to reports, Richardson ran to a gas station on McMullen Booth Road and told the clerk he shot his girlfriend.
The couple was hosting a birthday party for a friend.
The victim, Josephine Austria, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
