Two people have been arrested in connection with Manatee County animal cruelty investigation where more than 300 animals were seized.
Deputies arrested Alan Napier, 51, and Sheree Napier, 45, at their home Thursday afternoon.
Animal services investigators served a warrant at the Napier Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary back in February.
They took more than 300 animals, including dogs, cats, horses, pigs and other animals. Deputies said the animals were in "horrific" conditions.
Twelve dogs had to be euthanized, and deputies said about 20 dogs were found buried in a shallow grave.
Shortly after the raid, the Napier's lawyer released a statement saying in part, "everyone now knows they were sloppy and hoarded, but that does not make them animal abusers."
The Napiers are now charged with 15 counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
