18-Wheel Tractor Trailer Slams Into Bethlehem Township House

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A woman with a baby in her arms finds herself in the path of an out-of-control truck.

Chris O'Connell reports.

A terrifying afternoon for a young mother, home with her 3-month-old baby, when a tractor trailer came crashing into their Bethlehem Township house. Luckily, everyone is ok.

"The house shook profusely, a very loud noise," homeowner, Virginia Tavares said.

3-month-old Juliana may never remember what happened on Thursday, but her mom will never forget.

"Just as I opened the door its starting shaking a lot and I kicked it closed and ran out the door because I seen white coming at me." Tavares said.

It was an 18-wheel tractor trailer filled to the rim with construction debris.

Virginia Tavares was walking onto her porch to feed her daughter when the truck came roaring down Freemansburg Avenue, toppled over and crashed into her living room.

"If we were out there a minute before hand we would have been struck by it I'm sure," Tavares said.

"We had a natural gas problem there it hit the meter so we had to stand by we opened up windows and things like that to get the gas to disappear out because we had an explosion hazard," Bethlehem Township Fire Captain Mark Kuronya said.

Police say the driver of a sedan made an illegal U-turn causing the truck to slam into the car and lose control. The driver of the sedan ran away from the scene, but left his wallet and cell phone behind, according to police. Amazingly, no one including the truck driver was injured.

"In the end everyone is ok and everything else is just material damage and all is replaceable," Tavares said.

Bethlehem Township Police are still questioning the driver. Crews are hoping to upright the truck within the next hour.

As for the condition of Tavares' house, she won't know until the morning.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
