Paramedics in St. Petersburg say a single-vehicle crash along I-275 left one person dead and another badly injured this morning.

St. Pete Fire Rescue arrived at the 118th Avenue N exit ramp just before 9:30 to find a Ford Explorer had rolled down the embankment, partially ejecting the driver -- later identified as Jose Quinones, 35 -- in the process. Bystanders had lifted the vehicle off the pinned driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews pulled the injured passenger from the SUV. Melissa Lopez, 31, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with critical injuries.

FHP says Quinones lost control of the SUV and was not wearing a seat belt.
