Boater missing after fishing on Lake St. Clair

Posted: Updated:
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WJBK) - Authorities are searching for a man who disappeared while fishing on Lake St. Clair.

Marcus Braggs took his friend's boat onto the water on Sunday. His wife, Engrid Braggs, tells FOX 2's Andrea Isom he left about 11 a.m.

She spoke with him on the phone about 2:45 p.m., asking him if he had caught any fish. He said he hadn't and the weather was getting windy, so he told his wife he was going to head in.

Hours later, she still had not heard from her husband.

Then, she got a strange phone call from a friend saying the boat Marcus was using was found overturned in the water. The boat had visible damage and Marcus was not found.

Together, the coast guard, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and St. Clair Shores police used aircraft, several boats, a dive team and a side-scan sonar to search for him. A side-scan sonar detects temperature change in the water.

After 17 hours, authorities called off the search. They say they will continue the search on Tuesday if weather permits. Engrid tells Isom she and her husband celebrate their 15-year anniversary that day.
