Man facing abuse charges after allegedly strangling wife, injuring baby

Posted: Updated:

A 40-year-old Clearwater man is facing charges after police say he strangled his wife while she was holding a 7-week-old infant.

Police say Thomas Reinke strangled her so much that she lost consciousness, became weak, and dropped the child on the floor.

It happened during an argument in the 2400 block of Parkstream Drive shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The infant was dropped on a wooden floor, police said. The child was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with a slight skull fracture and broken arm but is expected to recover.

Reinke is in jail charged with domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated child abuse.
