Warrington Woman Accused Of Arranging Sham Marriages

Posted: Updated:
WARRINGTON, Pa. -

Federal prosecutors say a Warrington woman has pled guilty to charges she arranged sham marriages between illegal immigrants and U.S. citizens for money.

56-year-old Larissa Hlukha is accused of arranging 10 "green card marriages" over a five year span. She was caught after agents from Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI conducted an undercover sting operation. The immigrants Hlukha is accused of helping are mostly from Eastern European countries.

"She was making a very nice living out of this, charging people up to $20,000 [to] $25,000 per marriage," said Special Agent John Kelleghan with Homeland Security Investigations in Philadelphia.

Agent Kelleghan said the Russian-speaking Hlukha helped people who otherwise would have been deported to stay on American soil.

"Coaching them all the questions that are going to be posed to them by the immigration officer," he explained.

FOX 29 caught up with Hlukha outside her home.

"Do you have any comment?" asked our reporter, Sabina Kuriakose.

"No I don't want to do anything and I don't want to comment. Thank you," replied Hlukha.

She faces a maximum of 15 years in federal prison and a $500,000 fine when she is sentenced on July 23.

Hlukha's attorney Patrick Egan told us in a statement, "Larissa Hlucka is a hard working individual who regrets the decisions she made several years ago that led to these charges. We believe her role in this matter has been overstated by the government, however, she has accepted responsibility for her actions and only wishes to move on with her life."
