Vets warn of fatal bacterial infection spreading in dogs

Attention, dog owners, Florida veterinarians are warning about a spike in a fatal bacterial infection.

It's known as Leptospirosis and can infect dogs, rodents, horses and can even spread to humans.

The infection begins with flu-like symptoms, such as a fever. It can cause organ failure and even death.

Dogs that play outside and swim in ponds are most at risk. It is preventable.

There's a vaccination that costs about $20 to $35.
