Police Search For Man Accused In Two Rape Cases

UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

Upper Darby police are searching for a man accused of raping a young girl several years ago, and who police say allegedly raped another woman last week.

According to police, 48-year-old Troy Posey faces hundreds of sex related charges, including rape. They say the most recent allegations against him have re-ignited a previous case, making him a very wanted man.

"Turns out it was hell. It wasn't a safe haven. It was hell," Upper Darby Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

After missing the final bus home from 69th street terminal, Upper Darby Superintendent Michael Chitwood says a 19-year-old girl from West Chester stumbled across Bethel Community Baptist Church.

She told police a man who called himself "Frank," was outside smoking a cigarette and offered to let her sleep at the church.

Chitwood says the man allegedly sexually assaulted her inside for hours.

"She says she falls asleep on the couch, a short she feels her pants being tugged, and the next thing you know the guys on top of her," Chitwood said.

When the victim began describing the suspect to police, detectives say they realized Troy Posey was their alleged suspect.

Chitwood says Posey was already wanted in the area after he was accused of repeatedly sexually abusing an 8-year-old until she was 12.

That investigation began in 2012, but they could never find Posey

"He's a very, very smooth operator. He's a con man, but he's also a sexual predator," Chitwood said.

Investigators say Posey was a handyman at the church and also worked for an environmental group.

Now they say it appears he skipped town.

Upper Darby residents were outraged to learn about the alleged assaults.

"That's wrong, what would possess somebody to do that? That's inhuman like. To rape somebody, that just means you're trying to take control of somebody's life," concerned citizen Barry Foster said.

They want him out of their community soon.

"I would like to see him go away where he can't hurt or harm anyone else. When people do things against children it really destroys their lives, and we really need to put people like that behind bars so they can't hurt anyone else's children," Janie Myers said.

Our attempts to contact the church were unsuccessful today, but we're told they are cooperating with police. Chitwood says Posey's criminal history includes robbery. If you have information about his whereabouts, please contact Upper Darby police at 610-352-7050.
