Newborns gets Rays opener tickets for life

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -

A dozen newborn babies at Bayfront's Baby Place got a very special delivery on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay Rays players Sean Rodriguez and Heath Bell hand-delivered vouchers for Rays Opening Day tickets for life to the 12 infants born at the hospital on yesterday's season opener.

Bell hopes the gesture helps create a new fan base that will last for years to come.

"The Rays haven't been around all that long. Getting that 2nd, 3rd generation Rays fans would be huge," he said Tuesday.

Jennifer Jenema's baby boy was one of the 12 infants awarded the honor. She actually works at The Trop, and was supposed to be there for the season opener.

"I was supposed to be there on Opening Day anyways, but instead, I was delivering this little bundle!" she laughed.

The Rays also delivered the new moms baby baskets and balloons. The team plans to bring the new moms and infants on the field for a special ceremony honoring the new "Rays for Life" later this season.
