Victim's Uncle Speaks Out As Police Search For Suspect In Teen's Murder

PHILADELPHIA -

Police found a 16-year old lying in an apartment in the city's Spring Garden section shot in the head on Sunday.

As dozens of family members and friends gathered on Wallace Street Monday afternoon to remember 16-year old murder victim Antonio Flores, Juan Flores fought back tears as he remembered his nephew known to everyone as "Joey".

"He was like a son to me, "Flores told FOX 29. "Very good kid. You can ask anybody around this neighborhood what kind of person, what kind of kid he was. Everybody loved Joey."

Homicide Detectives say they now have a warrant for 23-year old Sergio Santiago, one of the teenager's friends, who investigators say pulled out a gun and shot Flores in the head in front of other teens.

"We're not sure what they were doing, somewhere along the line one of them pulled out a gun and shot him," Capt. Clark said.

Captain Clark says detectives are trying to identify everyone in the apartment at the time of the shooting. No gun was found at the scene. He says Santiago and the others fled after the shooting. Exactly what lead up to the deadly gunfire is unknown at this point.

"He's shot one time at pretty close range," Clark explained. "We don't know if they were playing around with a gun, was it an intentional act. We don't know."

Juan Flores proudly displayed pictures of Antonio when he played baseball in 2009. The young victim of gun violence was a student at this charter school on Chestnut Street. Juan Flores is looking for answers in his nephew's death.

"I would like to find out what really happened," he said.

In the meantime, Flores is mourning the loss of his nephew and making plans for the young man's funeral. Still wondering why anyone would want to take his life.

"He was a good kid, he didn't bother nobody. He was a happy young person," Flores said. "He didn't deserve to die like that."

Clark is urging the other teens that were present when the shooting occurred to come forward and speak with investigators.

The gun used in the shooting has not been recovered.
