Volunteer Firefighter Arrested During Emergency Call

Posted: Updated:

A firefighter is detained and handcuffed for not moving his fire truck while answering an emergency 911 call.

Firemen responded to the call on Monday coming to the aid of Amber Porter, who had collapsed.

Porter recalls, "I was walking toward the kitchen and just passed out."

As the paramedics aided porter, a New Roads police officer pulled up and demanded the fireman move the truck out of the road.

When the fireman refused, he was handcuffed and detained for 15 minutes. .

Deputy Chief Brant Thompson said, " his detectives will determine if laws that protect firefighters during emergencies were broken. State law prohibits anyone from interfering, impeding or tampering with a firefighter or volunteer firefighter during an emergency.

"I think he should get fired or suspended, something should happen to him because who just arrests somebody? He was helping me. He wasn't just parking his car to park it," declared Porter.

An investigation has been launched regarding the incident.
