TAMPA (FOX 13) -

When emergency crews are called out for a water rescue, it's not every day that the patient has four legs instead of two. But that didn't matter in Hillsborough County this morning, where rescuers went all-in -- literally -- to save a cow.

A lawn maintenance worker alerted deputies to a scene behind a business in the Progress Village area east of Tampa.  A cow had somehow wound up stuck in a pond.

Deputy Christina Ammons jumped in the water to hold the animal's head up while her partner kept a lookout for alligators. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived soonafter and worked to attach a harness and winch.

It took more than an hour, but the 20-year-old bull was safely pulled out.

"The elderly cow is exhausted and expected to make a full recovery," HCSO tweeted.
