Local Chorus 'Joyful Noise' Teaches The Power of Song

MORRISTOWN, N.J. -

Music means so many things to different people, and for one local chorus the power of song is helping foster an atmosphere of community, acceptance and teamwork.

"They sing with an unmatched exuberance and passion and they live up to their name," said associate director Cathy Sonnenberg.

The name of this performing choir is "Joyful Noise."

And it's hard to feel anything but joyful when you hear them sing and see the smiles on their faces.

"Singing makes me happy," Kevin Jackson, a choir member, said.

"I like singing with my friends. It's great when you feel yourself up there performing for other people," choir member Brett Rosen said.

Joyful Noise is made up of 45 people, ages 17 to 70, who have physical and neurological challenges.

"We have people with cognitive disabilities, some have epilepsy, some autism, but to us they are just people who really like to sing," Sonnenberg explained.

"When I sing the type of song I like, it makes me feel really good about myself," Jackson said, "I get a thrill out of it."
