All of the dogs that were placed on death row at the Manatee County Animal Shelter have been adopted or transferred, FOX 13's Alcides Segui reported Monday.
Eleven dogs in total were set to be euthanized because of overcrowding at the shelter – a result after a raid last month.
The shelter was making a last-minute plea for adoptions, saying the public had until 5 p.m. today to save them before they would be put down.
"Last week unfortunately our incomes exceeded our outcomes, so therefore we had to come up with a euthanasia list," Kris Weiskopf of the shelter said Monday morning.
This weekend, six of the dogs were adopted. Midday Monday, the SPCA out of Lakeland stepped forward to rescue the remaining five dogs. The animals arrived in Lakeland this afternoon, FOX 13's Cynthia Smoot confirmed.
The SPCA also said they were taking nine more dogs from Manatee County in order to free up some space there.
