Wilmington, DE -

A Wilmington man was arrested on Thursday after he robbed a Rita's Water Ice on Kirkwood Highway. Rita's was giving away free water ice that day to celebrate the first day of spring.

Jeffrey Wilkinson, 28, of Wilmington, ran into the business through a back door just before 10pm on Thursday. Police say Wilkinson was wearing a mask and holding a knife. He threatened a 17 year old female employee while taking money from a tip jar and register. He fled on foot, but police later located Wilkinson smoking marijuana near the Red Clay Creek Apartments. A search of his apartment resulted in the recovery of evidence linking him to the robbery.

Wilkinson was charged with robbery first degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $45,000 secured bail.
