TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Tampa Police have identified the man who crashed through a MacDill Air Force Base gate Friday night.

Investigators say Steven Coggins II is also a wanted sex offender in Tallahassee.

Coggins was convicted of luring a teenager to his home and performing sexual acts.

Police say he registered as a sex offender in Leon County, but no longer resides at the last reported address.

Late Friday night, Coggins drove through the Dale Mabry gate.

He crashed the car there and ran out of it.

Police searched for him for about 45 minutes, and caught him around 10:45 p.m.

The gates were on lockdown while police searched for Coggins.

He was taken from MacDill by ambulance.

Coggins remains in the hospital and will be booked once he is medically released.
