The wait is over, but in some ways, it's just about to begin.
Trader Joe's is finally coming to south Tampa – and all the excitement and buildup is sure to make for a traffic headache in the area of Dale Mabry and Swann.
The exact location of the new store, which opened at 8 a.m., is 3808 West Swann just west of Dale Mabry.
FOX 13's Chris Chmura was there bright and early, meeting with people who had camped out overnight.
"It's the best grocery store you will ever go to," said one man waiting outside. He was there at midnight. "It's where dreams come true.
Parking is expected to be tight, and morning traffic in the area will suffer. Once people go inside, though, they can see why there's so much excitement.
Chmura put Trader Joe's to the test on some basic items this morning – and it passed with flying colors. It has cheaper milk, butter and eggs compared to Publix and Walmart. The only item that was more expensive in our four-item test was bread.
In the video, Chmura takes a closer look at the comparisons.
Trader Joe's is known for its private-label products, low prices, and carefree shopping attitude. The store is expected to be packed today – and most days in the future.
There's already a Trader Joe's in Sarasota, and the company said there's a plan to bring one eventually to St. Petersburg.
