The family of a 39-year-old passenger killed after he was shot in the head while on a B15 bus in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn on Thursday is asking for your help.
The Bodega Association, a non-profit that helps Bodega workers, is giving $5000 dollars to the family... But family members say it's not enough.
They say funeral arrangements alone cost thousands of dollars and that Mr. Rojas worked two jobs to support his wife and two young children.
They’re asking New Yorkers to help the family during this difficult time.
Police say a teen, identified as Kathon Anderson, got onto the bus near Lafayette Boulevard and Marcus Garvey Boulevard around 6:20 and began firing shots at a rival. He missed his intended target but hit Angel Rojas, who was another passenger on the bus, police said.
Police recovered a firearm and six spent shells at the scene. Police say Anderson, who was charged as an adult, has a prior arrest record for disorderly conduct.
Relatives told the Associated Press that Rojas came to the United States four years ago from the Dominican Republic with his wife and two children.
Authorities charged Anderson with second-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm, the NYPD said.Donors seeking to help the family of bus shooting victim Angel Rojas can make contributions by sending a check to Catholic Charities at 1011 First Ave., New York, N.Y. 10022, with a notation that the money is earmarked for Rojas.
