DETROIT (WJBK) -- A father and son have been charged in connection with the deadly beating of a man inside a Detroit liquor store.

Prosecutors have charged 39-year-old Reginald Sturgis and his 15-year-old with second-degree murder.

Sturgis was arraigned Wednesday morning. His son's preliminary hearing is Saturday in the county's juvenile detention center.

Prosecutors say the two were shopping at Happy Food Liquor Store on Eight Mile Road and Hubbell Street Sunday evening when Sturgis is alleged to have gotten into an argument with Carl Bell. They say the argument escalated and allege Sturgis continued to punch Bell with the assistance of his son.

Bell, 45, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead from the injuries.

The prosecutor's office says Sturgis doesn't have a lawyer.
