First there was Donald. Nineteen minutes later, Chris entered the world.
That span of time is the furthest apart the Smith twins of Palmetto have ever been. They are twin defensive backs for the Arena Football League's Tampa Bay Storm.
The 26-year-old Smiths played high school football at Palmetto High, then went on to play at Northern Illinois. Donald Smith says he's always been able to count on his twin Chris.
"It's awesome...we grew up together, we do everything together. Wherever you see me, you'll see him," Donald said.
Chris says the same about his older brother.
"That's a major blessing, that's all I ever wanted to do. Play next to my twin brother," he said.
The twins have already made an impact on this year's Storm team. Friday night against the New Orleans Voo Doo, Chris Smith scooped up a fumble and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown. The Storm won the season opener 62-57.
It's all Donald and Chris Smith have ever wanted for one another...to keep playing side by side.
And after football is over? Chris Smith sums it up.
"We'll still be chillin', laughing, doin' the same old, same old."
