Police search for robber who beat pharmacist

Posted: Updated:

Temple Terrace police are looking for a man who severely beat and robbed a pharmacist.

It happened just before 8 p.m. at Omega Drugs Pharmacy on North 56th Street Saturday.

Investigators tell Fox 13 the crook forced his way into the business, snuck up behind the pharmacist and demanded drugs. The attacker beat the victim several times before leaving with a small quantity of drugs.

"It's a vicious, senseless crime," said Temple Terrace spokesman Michael Dunn. "Here's an honest man making an honest living, doing his job. Someone came to beat him up to steal a few drugs."

Dunn described the medications taken as mostly, "prescription drugs that were sitting out, waiting to be picked up."

The pharmacist called 911 to report the attack. Officers found him bleeding with serious injuries to the upper body. He is being treated at Tampa General Hospital.

So far, police have provided a vague description of the suspect, a white male in his late 20's, with dark hair.

Anyone with information should contact the Temple Terrace Police Department at (813) 989-7110.
