Department of Labor offering job training grants

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Labor is looking to award grants to local programs focused on helping juvenile offenders enter the workforce.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced Thursday that the grant application period is open for the $44 million "Face Forward" program aimed at improving long-term job prospects for juvenile offenders.

The DeKalb County government received nearly $860,000 last year to provide juvenile offenders with support services, training and more to help them work toward meaningful employment.

This year's round of grants is expected to fund programs over a 39-month period. Officials say offenders between the ages of 16 and 24 who have never been involved in the adult federal, state or local criminal justice systems are eligible to be served under the grant program.
