Skimmers may have swiped 300 credit card numbers

WESLEY CHAPEL (FOX 13) -

Deputies in Pasco County say a "large number" of credit cards may have been compromised by a skimmer device at a Wesley Chapel gas station.

Investigators believe the skimmer, which steals credit card numbers, was installed at the Hess station at 28232 S.R. 54 in Wesley Chapel Thursday, Friday, or Saturday of last week.

Skimmers were taken off pumps number 3 and 20 at the station on Saturday. Over 300 numbers may have been exposed.

This is the latest in several reported skimmer incidents around the Bay Area. Other devices have been found in Brooksville and New Tampa in the last few weeks and the cases may be connected.

Pasco deputies say you should check your credit card statement if you gassed up there. You can call PCSO at 727-844-7711 or visit www.pascosheriff.org to report any suspicious activity.

More information is expected from PCSO later this afternoon.
