With the NFL Free Agency period opening tomorrow at 4:00. Teams are making moves to position themselves to go on shopping sprees.
ESPN's Adam Schefter Tweets disturbing news for Bucs fans: "Short of a trade in the next two days, the Buccaneers are expected to release CB Darrelle Revis by 4 p.m. Wednesday, per league sources."
The Bucs have made some horrific decisions in their history, in the draft, free agency and in trades. But this would have to go down as the worst decision of all time.
The Bucs have already given the New York Jets a first and fourth round pick for Revis. They have paid him $16 million, and now they're going to cut him.
We're not talking about a player that's a bust. Revis made the Pro Bowl last season, coming off major knee surgery. He's still one of the top corners in the league.
This just doesn't make sense. Revis is owed a $1.5 million bonus on Thursday. Seems like a small price to pay for the investment the Bucs have in him already. I don't see how this would be a smart or winning move.
Revis may not be a perfect fit for Lovie Smith's style of defense, but he's the best player they have in their secondary. It's Jason Licht and Smith's job to improve this team. Can't see how this would accomplish that.
It took the Jets over a month to pull the trigger on trading Revis here and look what they got. Bucs need to make a right move here.
