Deputy-involved shooting leaves one man dead

Highlands County Sheriff's investigating a deadly shooting in Sebring.

At 4:45 Sunday morning, deputies were called to the area of 215 Plantation Road for shots being fired at homes.

As deputies arrived, the suspect opened fire on them using an AK-47.

Bullets riddled their patrol cars as deputies took cover behind houses and cars. Four homes and numerous patrol cars were damaged.

Deputies were forced to open fire, shooting one fatal shot, when the gunman refused to drop his weapon. Investigators have identified the suspect as 31-year-old Floyd Gene Hodge.

The case remains under investigation.
