'Manhattan Madam' Kristin Davis pleads guilty to selling pills

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Kristin Davis, the former madam who ran for New York City comptroller, has pleaded guilty to illegally selling prescription pills, the U.S. attorney announced.

Federal agents had arrested Davis, 38, back in August 2013. She entered her plea in federal court in Manhattan Friday, admitting to selling sleeping pills and muscle relaxants.

"Kristin Davis now stands convicted of illegally selling hundreds of highly-addictive and dangerous prescription pills in exchange for cash," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement. "Abuse of illegally distributed prescription pills is the fastest-growing drug problem in the country, and this Office will do everything in its power to help combat this public health epidemic."

Prosecutors said that Davis sold hundreds of prescription pills containing amphetamine, alprazolam, zolpidem, and carisoprodol to a guy she knew was a drug dealer. That man was actually cooperating with the FBI and was wearing a wire.

In 2013, Davis briefly ran for city comptroller as a third-party candidate advocating legalizing drugs and prostitution, citing her desire to beat ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who was also running for comptroller.

Spitzer resigned from office in 2009 after being caught up in a prostitution scandal. Davis, sometimes known as the "Manhattan Madam," has claimed she supplied prostitutes to him.

U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos will sentence her on July 25.

Although Davis could get up to five years in federal prison, her lawyer said he would seek no prison time, the AP reported.
