Recent cases raise spring break concerns

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Spring break is supposed to be a time to have some fun and let off steam before finals. Each year, about 1.5 million college students vacation during spring break.

This year, tragedy has struck one spring breaker. A 22-year-old from Florida was robbed and murdered while visiting Cancun with his brother.

Craig Taylor's body was found on the side of the road. His brother says they got into a fight at a bar over drink prices.

Also this month, a college student on spring break in Panama City Beach has gone missing. Reny Jose, 21, hasn't been seen for almost a week. His clothes and some personal items were found in a nearby garbage can.

These incidents can be alarming for parents. Here are some tips from travel experts:

1) Stay in a group and never leave your drink unattended.

2) Always have your cell phone with you.

3) Be smart about social media. Posting pictures can help others keep track of where you are. And be careful what kind of pictures you post.
