Cobblestone Corner to close doors

KENNESAW, Ga. -

The Cobblestone Corner has been a staple in downtown Kennesaw for four decades. But thanks to brutally cold temperatures this winter, the store will have to close its doors -- for good.

A pipe froze in January, causing it to burst and flood the shop.

Corbin and Edna Knight opened the store in 1975. "Well I think it's special because there's not anymore like it. I build all the furniture and my wife goes shopping for all the "what nots", said Mr. Knight.

After they got the call that the shop was flooding, they walked in to find water pouring from the ceiling. The pipe was on the third level of the store. "Shocked. It was just shock. I mean you could see 40 years of work being flooded and it's a devastating thing," said Mr. Knight.

They lost a lot of inventory. But since most of their stuff is seasonal, they had a lot in storage. The couple has insurance, but the damage was still too much to overcome. They'll sell what's left of it, and start a new chapter.

"I think it's a big part of the community, I really do. Since we've been here we've seen a lot of little shops come and go like ours, but we've been able to persevere, " said Mrs. Knight. "I have a lot of customers who depend on me being here, and I'm going to miss them so much."

The couple has marked down all of their inventory. Once they what they can, they plan to repair the store, and lease it out.
