Spring break comes to Florida

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER (FOX 13) -

When the snow falls up north, the north moves to Florida. At least for a few days.

Spring break is now heating up. In addition to hearing the waves on the shore, you can also hear the sound of cash registers ringing up sales at Bay Area stores, hotels and restaurants.

Several Florida colleges and universities are on their spring break this week, and many more will follow over the course of the next several weeks. Add that to the fans flocking here for spring training baseball and it is easy to see why there's so much more traffic.

While the cold and snowy winter up north has people thinking about Florida, some hotels say occupancy has been down so far this winter. That's mainly due to people who can't fly here due to flights canceled by the weather.
