Police are investigating the bizarre death of a homeless man in a popular park early Saturday morning.
James Stewart, 71, was found dead around 10am under some trees at the Inman Park on 8th street.
Due to his injuries, investigators quickly ruled his death to be a homicide, but they're not saying why or how just yet.
Officers spent much of Saturday combing through the bushes and grass looking for evidence that may help them track down Stewart's killer.
Police rarely respond to Inman Park and never for a homicide investigation.
"For the most part, this park is pretty calm and a safe park to come to," Capt. Charlie Bird said. "We have very few calls for service here."
Police described Stewart as a well known homeless man in Winter Haven that spends a lot of time at Inman Park.
Since the surrounding streets are usually busy, police are asking the public to contact them if they saw anything suspicious Friday night into Saturday morning.
