BRANDON (FOX 13) -

Deputies say a man was hit and killed while trying to cross Bloomingdale Avenue this morning – one of two fatal pedestrian accidents around the Bay area.

Investigators will be at the scene in Brandon for a few hours, which should cause delays near Maze Lane where the accident happened. It's just east of Bryan Road in Brandon.

Deputies say the man was trying to cross the road around 4:30 a.m., when a driver slammed into him. He was killed at the scene.

In Polk County, deputies say 72-year-old Lucila Arroyo Martinez of Poinciana was killed when she was hit by an SUV on Fairway Road. Investigators say Martinez suffered from psychological problems, and that she was lying on the right of the road when she was hit.
