A man who built a bomb that killed a Florida Highway Trooper is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection Wednesday.
Paul Howell was sentenced to death for killing Trooper Jimmy Fulford back in 1992. Howell was driving to Marianna to kill a woman and her baby with a booby-trapped microwave.
She was a witness in a drug-related murder, and he was worried about her testifying against him.
Before that could happen, Trooper Fulford pulled him over. As deputies carted Howell off to jail, Fulford inspected the package and was killed instantly when it went off.
Howell's sentence was postponed last February. It should be carried out at 6 p.m. at the state prison in Starke, pending any last-second appeals.
