911 recordings released Monday from a shooting inside a Pasco County doctor's office reveal a chaotic scene, while witnesses told authorities the chiropractor acted in self defense.
Dr. Lenny Linardos made the first call from his business, West Coast Spine and Injury Center.
"I just got a threatening call and I know who it was who just made the call," he told the 911 operator.
Investigators have said, not long after that, Jaime Velez went to the facility. Witnesses who called authorities said he was armed.
"The guy came in with a gun and we took him down," one caller said.
"Did he shoot someone?" the operator asked.
"No, the chiropractor shot him," the caller responded.
Another caller relayed a similar set of events.
"This guy came in here with a gun and the doctor was defending himself," the witness said.
Pasco County deputies have not arrested Linardos because of that self-defense claim.
According to an incident report filled out by detectives, when deputies arrived, Velez told them he was dying and that Linardos had just sent him a graphic text about an affair he was having with Velez's girlfriend, who was also at the scene and made a call of her own.
"Oh please, somebody. You've got to help me. Somebody just shot my boyfriend," she pleaded with the operator, crying the entire time.
"Oh my God," she can be heard saying.
The report also indicated that detectives heard the doctor saying, "this was all over a girl."
One witness ends by saying he moved the gun to a safe place.
"Real quick, though, I just touched it, I put it in the office," the caller said.
As of late Monday afternoon, Velez was in the hospital in critical condition, but was stable.
