A mother uses social media to garner birthday wishes for her autistic son and gets a whole lot more.
It was a festive scene at Logan Pearson's twelfth birthday party on Saturday as he was surrounded by cake, presents and plenty of friends.
This hasn't always been the case though.
Logan is severely autistic and can't speak. His family thought they would never be able to throw him a traditional party. However, this year his mother Catherine decided to make a change.
She turned to Facebook to ask people to send her son some birthday cards and wishes.
Instead of just a few responses, the post went viral, prompting well-wishers to send the birthday boy thousands of messages and buckets of cards.
The post even tugged the heartstrings of police officers across Massachusetts. They used police cruisers to escort the birthday boy to his party.
Meanwhile, Catherine Pearson said she feels humbled by the birthday party that's been twelve years in the making.
"Logan is loved around the world. So it's not a sad birthday anymore."
