Wild hogs blamed for torn-up yards in Manatee County

LAKEWOOD RANCH (FOX 13) -

In the never ending hunt for acorns, bugs, bark and roots, wild hogs are finding their feast in people's front yards. Most wouldn't mind if their grass wasn't demolished and turned into dirt and mud.

Hogs have destroyed dozens of lawns.

"I'm hoping they did not damage the lawn sprinkler system which is in here as well," Bob Heck said.

Heck's yard was hit three times in the past few weeks by hogs. It looks like someone took a bulldozer to his front yard.

Neighbors think they're coming from a nearby wildlife preserve.

"They're having pressure put on them from construction," Al O'Grady said. "The neighborhood is expanding so there's less and less habitat as time goes on."

O'Grady, Heck and their neighbors plan to hire a trapper who would come in and corral the hogs away.
