Chip's Take: With new look, Bucs now only missing playoff football

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The Buccaneer helmet has a new look. Now, let's see if they can get some new talent to really make the chrome facemask sparkle.

As Hall of Famer Warren Sapp hinted this week -- bigger is better and the new logo is certainly bigger. There are design changes in the logo itself, but the main thing Buccaneer fans notice is the size of the logo.

It now wraps around that pewter helmet.  There is also a new uniform being unveiled on March 5 -- or at least tweaks to the uniform that will match the design, color scheme, and look of the new logo.

It's a new logo, but it's also time to give that new look a new meaning. It's called winning football. It's called playoff football.

If the Bucs really want to make that new look stand out, then make the playoffs.  There are some pieces in place, but head coach Lovie Smith knows that he has some big holes to fill.  He likes what he sees in quarterback Mike Glennon, but at the same time this week, he hinted that if there is a franchise QB when the Bucs have that 7th pick, they make take him.

Smith and his staff are at the combine this week in Indianapolis getting a good look at all of the college talent.  It's the first step in a long process that teams go through prior to the draft.  This talent at the combine will also be holding their own personal pro days on college campuses all over the country, so Smith and his staff have some traveling to do.

All the reaction to the new logo on my Twitter, @ChipCarterFOX13, was really positive. Fans didn't want an overhaul, and they seemed to like the tweaks to the design.
