Bucs unveil new helmet, tweak logo

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The Buccaneers' new helmet made its debut on national TV Thursday night, five months before we'll see it on the field at training camp.

The team unveiled the shiny silver and chrome helmet during a glitzy NFL Network special, just days after announcing the change. They followed that up with a new version of the pirate ship logo Friday.

The Bucs have not changed their look since the famous 1997 makeover that dumped the old creamsicle uniforms in favor of the red and pewter pirate flag.

That update coincided with the arrival of a new coach named Tony Dungy. Now, the Bucs have hired one of Dungy's protégés as a head coach and are once again hoping for a fresh start in more ways than one.

With the helmet question settled, new coach Lovie Smith can focus on personnel and the upcoming draft. Among the top questions for the new front office is whether to stick with quarterback Mike Glennon or target a young QB in the draft.

Coming off their 4-12 season, the Bucs have the seventh overall pick.

The Bucs will unveil the new uniforms March 5.
