What -- or who -- caused a suspicious fire overnight Monday in Lake Wales? That's what the state Fire Marshall's Office is trying to figure out.
Andrew Gaitor experienced it firsthand. He was a sleep in one of the homes when his friends began wildly knocking on his window.
"They told me my house was on fire. They said you better get outta there," he told FOX 13. "So I came out quick, barefooted."
The fire eventually spread to four other house and a six-unit apartment building nearby. Thankfully, no firefighters or residents were hurt.
Despite extensive damage, only three families were displaced because most of the residences were vacant.
Investigators from the Fire Marshall's Office say the blaze is suspicious because no one was living in the home where it started, but are stopping short of calling it arson.
