TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A new bill inTallahassee aims at making sure your private life is your business – and notyour boss's.

The new legislation, SB198, would ban employers from demanding social media user names and passwordsfrom their staff.

Right now, that practiceis perfectly legal in Florida, and bosses can fire workers who don't cooperate. The bill would ban that outright.

The sponsors of the lawsay people ought to have the right to vent about their boss or annoyingco-workers on Facebook and Twitter without fear of being spied on or fired.

However, others say thelaw is necessary. Some business owners say they need access to those accountsfor sexual harassment cases and other legal situations.

Also at issue here:which accounts they should be allowed to see.

Most agree work-associatedaccounts are fair game, but personal profiles are not.
