Advocates head to Tallahassee to push for more cancer funding

The fight to curecancer is going to the state capitol.

On Tuesday, there is astatewide initiative to raise awareness and make a case for increasedgovernment funding for cancer research. About 50 "Speak Out for Moffitt" advocates will take a bus toTallahassee to share their personal stories with lawmakers, urging them tocontinue funding for cancer research.

This month, Gov. Rick Scottproposed $80 million for cancer research in next year's state budget. With theapproval of the Legislature, it would provide direct support to Moffitt CancerCenter and Florida's other major cancer institutions for promising cancerresearch projects throughout Florida.
