A dog that's had a hard life is looking for a new home, and a local rescue group is hoping to pair her up with a very special child.
Last week, a good Samaritan found this black lab mix roaming the streets. She was covered in gasoline and in severe pain from a badly broken leg.
The dog was rushed to the Veterinary Center at Fishhawk in Lithia, where she's been nursed back to health with the help of a team of experts and some generous donors.
They've named her 'Joy' and now, with the help of the Hillsborough Animal Health Foundation, they're looking for a family with a special needs child who could benefit from a life-long buddy.
Joy is about a year old. Doctors say she will be on cage rest for about four weeks but is doing well and getting better every day.
"Joy is simply a wonderful dog and she should be shared with a special child," said Don Thompson, HAHF's executive director.
If you know of a physically or intellectually challenged child in the area that would like Joy as a companion, please contact the VCF by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the VCF clinic at 813-681-9080.
