Seven hours after shooting a man named Jaime Velez at his chiropractic office on Route 19, Doctor Lenny Linardos answered his door, and referred us to his attorney, who happened to be right next to him.
"Dr. Linardos is home. He cooperated fully with law enforcement," said attorney Cimos Angelis. "There was nothing that he did that was criminal. He defended himself."
The attorney wouldn't say how his client's life was threatened or whether another gun was involved.
"I can't really talk about anything," said Angelis.
But deputies say there was a confrontation between the two men at Linardos' office, that Velez went inside and words were exchanged before the shooting.
Linardos' neighbors stood up for him.
"A real good man. He takes care of his mother. That's how I know there's something to the story. He's not a gun-toting type of person," said Chris Clement.
Perhaps there are hints of a conflict on Facebook.
On a January 19th post by Velez, he's posing with a pregnant woman, saying "no more games, lies and deceit. Family first."
Monday morning, Linardos commented: "Haha, you just lied."
Angelis said he couldn't comment on how Linardos knew Velez.
Deputies towed two cars from the office and interviewed Linardos and a witness.
But the third person, Velez, was unable to immediately give his side.
"The victim is in pretty bad shape and is unable to speak to us at this time," said a representative of the Pasco Co. Sheriff's Office.
Linardos' neighbors insisted Linardos isn't a violent man.
"I know Lenny. I know that it's not a case like in Jacksonville or something out of Sanford. If he used a gun, there's a reason he used that gun," said Clement.
Deputies may release more information on Tuesday.
