A Bayarea high school is getting ready for a regional robotics competition. EastLake High Robotics "Team 79 Krunch" will be in Orlando the beginningof next month.
They'recompeting against more than 50 teams from around the world. The competitioncombines skills of various competitive sports and is played by two opposingalliances, with three teams on each side.
Thechallenge is to pass a large exercise ball to other alliance teams, shoot theball over a truss and into various goals to score points.
About60 students have spent the last six weeks building "Krunch 17." It'san aluminum robot using pneumatics and motors. It's capable of picking up,catching, passing and throwing a 3 pound exercise ball.
The team's robotics captain, Austin Bayon, is optimistic East Lake High willwin the competition. Last year, Team79 Krunch was a two-time regional championship winner and qualified for theworld championships.
The Orlando tournament is scheduled for March 13-15.
