Loved ones gathered Saturday afternoon to remember Andrew Joseph III.
The 14-year-old was hit and killed more than a week ago while crossing I-4.
A funeral was held for him in Valrico at St. Stephens Catholic Church.
Andrew will be buried in the cap and gown he was planning to wear for his 8th grade graduation.
Joseph III was remembered as an outstanding student athlete who loved playing football with the Brandon Ravens.
He was ejected from the Florida State Fair and dozens of other teens one Friday night.
Several hours later, he ran across the interstate and was hit and killed.
A spokesperson for his family said today was about celebrating his short life.
"This is a very unfortunate circumstance that this family has been faced with. And what we're going to do today is just to celebrate his life and his legacy. Even though he was only 14 years old he still has a wonderful legacy that he has left behind," said Sonji Coney Williams.
Joseph III and his family moved to Valrico from New Orleans, after losing everything in Hurricane Katrina.
His family plans to take his body back to Louisiana where he will be buried.
