East Lake seniors take final shot at soccer title

TARPON SPRINGS (FOX 13) -

The Bay area is well represented in the state soccer tournament. Four Tampa Bay teams make the final four in four different classes.

East Lake takes on Boca Raton in the 5A Semifinals Friday afternoon.

The Eagles had a couple games in this post season where they lost focus for just a few minutes and it nearly cost them wins. East Lake soccer players have learned to keep up the intensity.

Head coach Alex Stenson says one redeeming quality about his team is they don't know when they've been beaten, so they never give up and that pays off.

"It's their discipline and their togetherness and the fact that they really like each other. To me, that's been key this year," Coach Stenson says. "They do have a lot of fun. They hang out together after school and they go party together and go to different events together. They really like each other."

The East Lake seniors give their last shot at a state title everything they've got.

Alex Carbonelli embraces the challenge.

"The last few years we've gotten so close and we've never been able to finish it out. So it would be a great way to end senior year," he says.
