Burbank man, 79, is Cook County`s 20th cold death of season

BURBANK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A southwest suburban man who died Monday is Cook County's 20th cold-related death of the season.

Elieser DeJesus, 79, died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 9:48 a.m. on Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

DeJesus, who lived in the 8600 block of Mansfield Avenue in Burbank, died of complications of hypothermia, cold exposure, and coronary artery disease, an autopsy Wednesday found. His death was ruled an accident.

Burbank police were not immediately available for comment Thursday morning.

DeJesus is the 20th cold-related death of the season in Cook County, according to the medical examiner's office.

The last time the county saw 20 cold-related deaths was 2008-09, when 23 people died of cold-related causes, officials said. Last winter and the winter of 2011-2012 each saw 14 cold-related deaths in the county.
