SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three people were displaced from their home when it caught fire Wednesday afternoon in south suburban Sauk Village.

Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 22500 block of Torrence Avenue just before 3 p.m., Sauk Village Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Edward Myers said.

A family of three escaped the house unharmed, he said.

Six area fire departments assisted and the extra-alarm fire was struck out just after 5 p.m., Myers said. No one was hurt in the blaze.

The American Red Cross was helping the family with housing arrangements after the fire left their home uninhabitable, Myers said.

The assistant chief estimated that the home sustained between $50,000 and $60,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no foul play is suspected, Myers said.
