Five-Year-Old Speaks To FOX 29 After Hit And Run Accident

PHILADELPHIA -

Police say a driver hit a five-year-child and then took off. it happened around 7 a.m. on 52nd Street and Baltimore Avenue.

Five-year-old Tristan Eskridge sat on his couch covered in blanket and enjoying a big lollipop just a few hours after police say he was struck by a hit and run driver at 52nd and Baltimore in Southwest Philadelphia.

"I bounced on top of the car. Then I bounced again and my mom caught me," Tristan told FOX 29 while resting at his home.

"I thought he was going to die. He just screaming ouch, my body, my leg. Mommy why. Help me. Help me," said Tristan's mother Regina Eskridge.

Tristan and his mom were taken to Children's Hospital bruised and shaken up after they were struck by a grey Pontiac minivan as they crossed the street headed to Tristan's day care center.

"He sped up, so we tried to walk a little faster and then he hit us," Eskridge explained. "Tristan bounced and he flew and I caught him and layed him on the ground."

Tristan's mom says the driver stopped for a moment and yelled to her to see if Tristan was okay, then drove away.

"I was shocked. I was upset. I couldn't believe that he actually pulled off," she said.

Investigators say a witness got a license plate number and a bulletin went out to police to be on the lookout for the van. Regina Eskridge and Tristan say they can't understand why the driver didn't stick around to see how the kindergartner was after he was struck.

"What do you want to say to him now," Eskridge was asked. "You were wrong for doing that to my son, totally wrong and then leaving. Not even making sure he was really okay. You just left," she said.

"You might as well just turn yourself in," she added.

Police have not yet located the van. The Pennsylvania license plate number is HCA-5975. They traced it to several addresses, but the van was not there.

Anyone with information should call the Accident Investigation District at 215-685-3180.
