Deputies have taken eight more horses from a couple who owns a troubled animal sanctuary.
The horses were found on properties in Myakka City owned by the Napier family.
Last week, deputies raided Napier's Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary.
Twelve dogs had to be euthanized. Deputies say about 20 dogs were found buried in a shallow grave.
Hundreds of other dogs, cats, horses and pigs were confiscated.
Deputies say the animals were in horrific condition and the owners could end up charged with animal cruelty.
The Napier's lawyer released a statement Monday saying in part, "everyone now knows they were sloppy and hoarded but that does not make them animal abusers."
He goes on to say, "a sloppy hoarder does not equate, however, to an animal abuser."
